i should be studying, but....

to waste time, i've decided i'm due for my bi-yearly semiupdate for all of my dedicated livejournal readers. (yeah, all zero of them)
so what's been going on in my life lately?
well, going back to last semester, i was one grade off from a 4.0 (i got a B in one class, all the rest were A's). crazy, right? mr. academic probation/getting nearly all W's in one semester is now on the dean's list his first semester of "real" college.
well...i'm trying to continue the trend this semester, but it's not easy. i've got a pretty lax schedule as of right now, but one class in particular, statistics, is kicking my ass pretty bad. i've always hated math, and i vowed to myself 2 semesters ago that i would never, ever take another math class ever again in my entire life. to ensure this promise, i had made me major in english, a subject that's just about the furthest thing away from math that i can possibly get. so, what happened? i've decided that english was not only a stupid and "easy way out" for me, and was leading me in the direction to do nothing other than teach, but i've also decided to further indulge my interest in psychology, which will hopefully be my new major as of next semester. and of course, psychology requires all of it's students to have passed a statistics course with a C or better, and i figured if i really wanted to be in a psychology major that bad (which, as of right now, i do), i might as well get the difficult shit out of the way and be able to focus on nothing my psychology studies next semester. so that's that.
also, a big event that will be happening in my life very soon is getting my very own apartment. living on campus has had it's many ups--being within 2 minutes walking distance from stephanie, walking to class, which means pretty much never driving and never having to worry about a gas bill, to name a few--but with the ups there come many downs that i have just decided that i don't want to deal with. my roommates aren't terrible people, but they're not people i ever want to live with ever again. it's pretty much a repeat of the living conditions i dealt with in davis last year, only these people aren't my best friends, and so this time i have absolutely no tolerance for it. so in less than 3 weeks i will be moving into these brand new apartments down on expressway and having my own living space for the first time ever. i'm totally pumped. it's going to kinda suck driving to school now, but it's a sacrifice that i'm willing to make in order to be able to have a place that i'm not sharing with any other inconsiderate slobs like the people i'm living with right now. parties will be had, i'm sure.
i'm actually moving right in the middle of my spring break. before i move, alex is coming home for a few days, which means we get to fuck up my current on-campus apartment even more than its fucked up right now before i peace outta there, then on easter sunday i go to denver to visit my grandmother for 2 days. i come back from denver, then the next day i move into the apartment. then the day after that is stephanie's birthday, so i'll be really busy...but i'm really looking forward to all that good stuff.
other than studying and looking forward to the future, not much else has been happening really. i've seen a handful of really good movies lately (zodiac, black snake moan, shooter, to name a few) and i've been coming home to stockton every once in a while to kick it with grayson, and also i finally got to see saul for the first time in forever a few weeks ago.
well, i guess that's all i really have to ramble about right now. as i said before, i really should be studying for a statistics midterm that i have on tuesday. i'd say that i'll update soon if anything significant happens...but i'd hate to be a liar.

new year

so last night's new year's eve was....quite eventful. it didn't really go the way any of us had hoped, i think...but that's what happens when things don't get planned. it was still a good night, in my opinion....we were supposed to originally go to tahoe...then that fell through. then we were supposed to go to davis and drink wikis....but i didn't want to book a hotel room until i knew who all was going to go...and then finally, as of 3pm yesterday, some of us were going to have a hotel party in lodi. our group thusfar had included myself, stephanie, grayson, saul, vince, sabrina, alex, and niqui. vince and sabrina were at work, and vince didn't get off til 10...so he decides to tell me that i should book the hotel room. well...long story short, the hotel room didn't get booked, and we just decided to shitcan the whole "hotel party" anyway, since no one really wanted to stay the night anywhere other than their own house. so, we just decided to stick with the group we had (myself, stephanie, grayson, alex and niqui) and go to a bar. we had already had drinks at dave wong's, then me and the 2 guys had sparx right before we went to the bar....i thought it would keep my buzz going, but it ended up making me hyper/drunk/sick, so i ended up pretty much being at the height of my hyphyness before we even hit the bar, and the thought of ordering a drink was making me sick. it was still fun though, as we were able to get a table at basil's. it wasn't too crowded or noisy and filled with morons, and we had gotten there just in time for the midnight countdown. after about an hour at the bar, we decided to call it a night...and that was that. not quite as eventful as last year...but goodtimes. and there's always next year.
this past year has seriously gone by so quick i can't even believe it. from enjoying the last few months of the apartment in davis, moving out, and going through my first semester at sonoma...it's just been wild.
the year started off with me turning 21, and going to vegas with my family and yasir.
met melissa.
saw head automatica with steph and her brother.
went to disneyland with stephanie.
my grandfather passed away.
went back to vegas, and it was even better the second time around with some of my best friends.
moved out of the davis apartment; the end of an era.
lost touch with yasir, but fortunately not grayson and alex.
howard died. =(
got to see mars volta with grayson and saul.
finally got to see tool with grayson.
started my first semester at sonoma...which has been great.
had a good thanksgiving in half boon bay with the family, followed by a great christmast at home.
and then last night--getting to end the year and ring in the new one with some of my best friends.

as i said, 2006 was a really eventful year...i remember feeling completely overloaded at more than one instance. but it was a really good year for me, and i'm glad that i've made it through the year and i'm looking forward to experiencing what will come in 2007, because i think it's going to be even better. i'm so happy that i have a wonderful girlfriend, as well as some great friends that i'm sure will remain by my side for years to come.

yeah, it's treating me well.
this has always been my favorite time of the year.
classes are almost finished...just have to keep in mind i still have 2 weeks left...even though i just wanna sleep and not write any more papers. or study. or write any more fucking poems.
thanksgiving was nice. a bit boring, as usual...but nice.
christmas shopping needs to be done...but money isn't something i have a ton of right now.
speaking of christmas, i'm not really sure i want to come home. living in sonoma is nice. it's made me realize what a shithole stockton is. i couldn't be happier that i left there.
you know, there's a ton of stuff that i could write in here....but i've decided against it, for now.
bye.

well, life in davis has been okay lately. all the days kinda just blend together except for the 2 days that require me to leave the house and go to class. speaking of class, i'm actually quite proud of myself and how much i've been keeping up with my grades. i thought i'd kinda fall off when i first moved up here, and then eventually get to the point where i just gave up with school...but i've been managing my time really well. i just finished writing a 6-page paper that isn't due for another week...but it's nice to just wake up a certain day or two during the week and figure "i've got nothing else to do. i'm gonna do two weeks worth of homework." so that i have the next week or so free of any dreads of having do do homework or having a load of work to do in one day by waiting until the last minute to do it all.
doing well in class and (hopefully) finishing off the semester has gotten me to start thinking about the impending future. it actually feels like i'm finally going to be going college sometime soon, haha....well, it's just something i've got about 1 semester...well, less than that, to think about. i need to decide if davis is really the place for me. as i said, living here so far has been cool...but it's gonna be different next year. half of my roommates may (or may not) be gone. and i'm kinda starting to think that i'd like to go somewhere new, just for a total change of scenery for a year or two. i'm pretty sure at this point that california is where i want to live and have a career and a family...so why not branch out for a bit, just to say i lived somewhere other than northern california? i dunno though. something i need to give some thought to. the idea of starting somewhere completely fresh and new is kinda scary, but kinda intriguing at the same time.
looks like i'll be heading home this weekend for my mom's birthday, i'll probably finish up some more homework when i get home, since there isn't much else to do when i go home besides homework. i guess that's a good thing to do this weekend, though, so that i can get the week of halloween off. also, neil turns 21 this weekend...so major partying is supposed to ensue. should be a lot of fun.
halloween is right around the corner as well. no definite plans yet, though...possibly going to san francisco. possibly throwing a party here. possibly just hitting up parties around here in town. i'm not even going to spring for my costume until i get some sort of idea of what everyone else is doing. hopefully this year will be cool.
well, i guess this is all i feel like rambling about for now.

would i lie to you?
yeah, i'd like to.
over and over.
over and over...

as promised, here are pictures from our party last weekend. oh, and of our new kitten, too.

javier and yasir.

vince and yasir, with hollywood saul on his cell in the back.

vince and yasir, doing straight shots of everclear. D=

even denis showed up!

alex, the no0b, after eating a habanero pepper that i had bought at safeway. yasir ate two of them, and he was hiccuping and sweating for a good 10 mins or so.

i think this is my favorite picture from the entire night. there's so many emotions evoked from this picture....rofl. i think this was around when the everclear started hitting vince, but as you can see, he holds his liqour quite well.

vince is passed out on our balcony, while yasir is trying to put the weed pipe in his mouth...saul is eating a hotpocket. i think vince was starting to show he was kinda feel a little drunk by now.

after a few shots of everclear (of course, he thought it was grey goose...*cough*) alex tells me he wants me to join him in singing my chemical romance to vince, as vince tries to pass out in our living room after throwing up and passing out in our bathroom, then the balcony.

after one song, vince decides to go back to the bathroom and pass out again. before he left, he threw and broke alex's glasses, and spit on him a bunch of times. i don't think he was feeling alex's rendition of "helena."

nevermind...i think this might be my favorite picture from the evening. right around the time when the ever...err, grey goose started hitting alex, he ran to the top of our two flights of stairs, and rolled himself all the way down. we weren't sure, but we think the alcohol might have been getting to him.

we thought it'd be kinda funny to stick the weed pipe in alex's mouth, to see if he was really drunk. still not sure, alex seemed pretty sober.

we thought it would be kinda funny to invade vince one more time, and let alex pass out next to him in our bathroom, so the next morning they'd look at each other and wonder how they got here.

however, as fate would have it...alex started vomiting, and vince was so disgusted that he woke up out of a dead-ass passed out state, called alex a son of a bitch, then went upstairs and passed out in alex's bed. things worked out better than we imagined, though, because at some point in the following hours, alex stripped his underwear off and went upstairs and slipped into his bed with vince in it. neither of them remember anything, alex says he doesn't remember stripping and running upstairs....but i can rest pretty assured it was a night of sweet lovin'. and grayson was in his bed, across the room to witness it ;)

and now, pictures of our new roommate, howard the kitten...

we got him from the shelter in the next town over...he has some sort of respiratory problem, he sneezes constantly...but they told us it was just a common kitty cold, and we just have to keep giving him medicine for the next two weeks or so.

summer continues to be good to me.
steph has been in aptos since last friday, and yesterday i went down and visited her. i was pretty hesitant at first, seeing as how i haven't met any of her family at all...but everything turned out well. the drive down was hot, but luckily i didn't hit hardly any traffic at all..and i also recognized most of the freeways and stuff from going to santa cruz for a few shows last summer. i got a little lost once i got off the freeway in aptos, and steph's mom had to give me directions...but it was kinda difficult cos she didn't know any of the street names D=
once i finally got there, i was given a sandwich steph had made me and FORCED me to eat...then after some time her cousin gianna shows up and the three of us go chill on the beach for a while...which was pretty wild, since i haven't been on a beach in a good 7 or 8 years. it was awesome though, the weather (after it cleared up) was perfect. i'm too hardcore for suntan lotion, and luckily i didn't get burned, as i'm trying to preserve my white-ness...but certain parts of my face have turned a slight pink. oh well.
after walking along the beach, we go back to the house and some other friends of their family show up and we all go to some old-fashioned ice cream shop, then we head to the boardwalk in santa cruz.
gooooodtimes...rode a few rides...i was talked into the big dipper...and then later even went on those bucket things that go way high (i hate heights)...but i had a lot of fun. and we got funnel cake too, which is clearly one of the best things to eat in a theme-park type environment, even though i could hardly eat any of it cos i had eaten a huge philly cheese chicken sandwich.
around 11 we head back to the the house, where steph and her mom tried to convince me to stay the night...but i decided it would be best if i just came during the night, since i didn't want to fight traffic in the heat the next day, although i do kinda wish i had stayed. oh well. so i left around 12:45, and got home around 2:15.

as for today...not sure what's going on tonight, if anything. probably hanging out with gayson and vince. either today or tomorrow i have to go put in my two weeks notice at mervyn's....never have i wished my summer away so quickly. in two weeks i've got the glassjaw show...then a few days after that i'm going to washington...then i come back, and a few days later i move in :D...speaking of which, grayson is apparently now moving in with us O_O...but yeah. i'm pumped for the summer to end already, for once.

so those hardware problems i've been having with my notebook for the past year? they finally did my laptop in, to the point of it not even recognizing my hard drive anymore, so this has been the reason for my absense online for the past week or so. now the question is should i simply replace the hard drive, or get a whole new laptop? i think replacing the hard drive will be fine, and it's something i can afford to do myself...but my parents are considering getting me a new computer, since they're concerned about me having problems when i move out. we'll see i guess.
sadly, there isn't much of significance that i feel like updating about at this hour. my hours of work continue to dwindle, been spending a lot of time with friends, smoking hookah, playing pool, spending what little money i have on going to the movies. speaking of which, wedding crashers and hustle & flow are both excellent movies.
i also made a trip up to sonoma earlier this weekend, to see how far away it is and what kinda area the college is in. it was really pretty, and a very nice campus...but i'm glad i'm not the one going there. i thought davis was a boring ass cow town...at least davis is within 20 mins of a cool city with stuff going on O_O....it's kinda depressing for me, knowing she'll be kinda far away, and i'm sure she's going to be lonely, since it's not a drive i'm sure a lot of people will be wanting to make....but i'm more than willing to make the hour-long drive for her at the drop of a hat, as many times a week as she needs me to. hell, she's already a half hour away from me right now. plus once i get more familiar with the drive, the time it takes to get there will lessen. not to mention i like driving anyway.
this week was supposed to be a cool week...head automatica shows and parties were supposed to be occurring...but unfortunately were cancelled, so i'm still pretty bummed about that. hopefully something cool will happen to make up for it.

oh yeah. and you can take that fucking bread, and shove it up the tops of your legs!

life has been good lately....very good. there have been a few minor things that haven't gone so well, but life is never perfect or easy.
i've been going to movies a lot, i've been spending a lot of time with a very special person as well as some good friends, work has been so-so (except for the fact that i've been getting hardly any hours)...

and now, i find out that the head automatica shows are cancelled. god dammit daryl...i know it's not your fault....but still. god dammit....=(
and now my hopes aren't high at all about the glassjaw show coming up in a few weeks...i'm thinking i might try to make it down to LA for one of the california shows that hasn't been cancelled for head automatica....but i kinda doubt that will happen.....at least this time i can get my tickets refunded....

last night was easily one of the coolest things that has ever happened to me. i'll recap and try not to bore anyone with too many of the the smaller things...
so last night was the rondo brothers show with les claypool and mimi lala in san francisco at the great american music hall. (same place dorothy and i saw cake and we got our .5 seconds of fame)...but there was some lame ass fireworks thing going on here in brookside, and all of my annoying family is in town, with the exception of my cool uncle mark....so i basically told them i had to work, so that i could get of an evening with a bunch of screaming little kids and go to the rondo brothers show.
so, it was myself, saul, grayson, joey, and stephanie that were going. we were supposed to meet near my house, with everyone coming in different cars at 4:30. but, since we were going with two females, and one of those females' names is "stephanie" we were about 40 mins late...but it wasn't a big deal. we got on the road, and had an interesting drive up there...one that involved paper darth vader helmets D=....and it got kinda scary once we got to san francisco...saul wanted to see some assless chaps on a guy, but unfortunately, it was kinda cold. but we did see a few guys walking around without shirts on oO...
but yeah...so by the time we found somewhere to park, and get out of the car and on to the street, it was almost 7, and the show started at 8. so i called jim to let him know we were in san francisco, and find out what the deal was as far as getting us in...cos he said that he'd get at least grayson or i in for free. but he didn't answer....so we just started walking. uphill. for about 8 and a half blocks. goooooodtimes...
so we got there, and grayson asked the lady at the ticket booth if she had the guest list for the rondo brothers, and she said she didn't....so i bought stephanie and joey's tickets...saul bought his...and grayson bought one ticket for either him or me, assuming one of us would get in for free at some point....so we waited in line for a few minutes, and then the line started moving...so grayson went back to the ticket lady and i guess she had just gotten their guest list...and he came back with two tickets, and two yellow wrist bands D=...he and i both got one, and got in...so pretty much the ticket he had bought went to waste, but oh well heh....
soo we got in, and were told that we had to sit down at a table. so i was like wtf...but whatever. so we sat down, and eventually jim came by and said hi to us, and told us that our yellow wrist bands allowed grayson and i to go back stage and get drinks or whatever we wanted to do....so we tried it it :D...my first backstage experience....grayson and i went back and got a soda for myself and saul....it was kinda akward cos the band was just chilling all in this one tiny room....and the smell of pot lingered in the air, and they were all just kinda like "...hey guys....uh, what do you need?"...or at least that's how i kinda felt, so we got the hell out of there after shaking some hands...
shortly after we got back out to the floor, they went on stage for an awesome show. poach ripped shit with his free styles, along with pineapple wine...and they had some dude named pedro that wore the tightest pants i've ever seen on a man to sing aquarium dreams....it was an awesome performance.
so then after they got playing, the whole band came out to the crowd and we took turns talking to them as they passed us, taking pictures and whatnot...and finally brandon came out and was like "dude. come back stage." and i told him that grayson and i could, but our three friends didn't have wrist bands....and he was like "just follow me." and he got us all back there D=....it was wild. we spend a good 2 and a half hours back there, just kickin it with them. brandon was high as a motherfucker and just going on and on about head automatica and how they're a cool band, but he's got so much else he's working on right now, and how he plans to play with them when they come through....and then everyone started to clear out, then jim came in, who was also high as a motherfucker, and just sat there and let us ask him stupid questions for a good hour and a half or so. he talked to us about the music industry and his experiences...he talked about his baby for a little while...and i had to ask some stupid questions about daryl, cos i was so curious as to what it was like to hang out with him, since i never have really got to actually talk to daryl, and he's someone i've been following since i was in 7th grade...and so it was cool to hear what jim had to say.
after a while, we decided it was time to head out...so we thanked jim about 200 times for being so cool and just hanging out with us...then we headed back to the car, went to nation's, then came home. no scary places :(...but it was an amazing time. i can't wait for the head automatica shows <3

grayson, joey, and saul with...paper darth vader helmets they found in my car.

poach motherfuckin stevens, me, brandon aka bastard prince

s moore, me, jim, and saul backstage....i have no idea what saul's doing oO
